I love dessert. I love making it, eating eat, and sharing it.
Ian loves dessert too. He loves making it, eating it, and wearing it.
We have a ward party on Friday and they are doing a dessert cook-off.
I’m always wanting excuses to try something that I won’t have to eat all by myself.
I have narrowed down the possibilities to about 100 recipes, give –or-take.
This is my kind of dilemma.

Natalie didn’t need any coaching on opening her presents (though Ian tried).
She didn’t need any coaching with blowing out the candles either.
We had to relight the candles twice to get through the entire birthday song.
That’s my sweet little 2-year old.
I have decided to start posting recipes on this blog as well as a copy on our recipe blog (something new, something yummy.)
I feel like this is only fair because I wrote in my description of this blog that this is where I write about what I think about. Food is on my mind a hefty portion of the time.
I’ve been reading so many recipes lately that sound so scrumptious. One of my fears in life is that I will die before trying all the recipes that are really worthwhile out there. My recipe stack grows everyday.
I wanted to point this recipe out as one of those that I think everyone should try. I first tried it last year around St. Patrick’s day but it has become a regular at our house. I like to have soup and bread nights and since the kids aren’t fans of soup the bread part is pretty vital to the meal.
This is not only low-fat and high fiber, it also comes together super fast and you can have a warm loaf of bread in about an hour. That is helpful for people like me who lose track of time, and realize dinner is coming up fast.
I like it best when it is still warm from the oven and the crust is crusty, but it also makes yummy toast the next day.

Brown Soda Bread
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup steel-cut oats
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon wheat germ
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups buttermilk (I use sour milk made from lemon juice and skim milk)
1 large egg-beaten
1. Preheat oven to 325.
2 Coat a 9x5 loaf pan with cooking spray
3. Combine flours through salt.
4. Combine buttermilk with egg and add to the flour mixture.
5. Stir until just combined.
6. Spoon mixture into pan.
7. Bake at 325 for 1 hour and 5 minutes or until pick comes out clean.
8. Invert on wire rack.
I was talking to someone yesterday about not blogging as much lately. My main reason is because I feel like nothing much has been going on.
So here is a post about nothing much going on, which happened last night.
(That is a swimming suit Natalie was wearing on her head.)
We had gotten the Valentine’s ready for class parties this week so the kids had sugar on the brain.
Ian got the extra fun-dip valentine, and Cali had some giant pixie sticks from awards at school and we pulled them out.
And then because we like to throw caution to the wind, we let the girls dip suckers in the pixie stick sugar and make their own fun-dips.
This is a good example of our wild and crazy Saturday nights.
I have a bone to pick with the person who wrote the "Three White Dresses" poem. I think that it was someone hired in a marketing scheme by one of those white clothing companies.So back in October I took some pictures.
I am now getting down to doing something with them. It’s kind of amazing that “the holidays” eats up 1/4 of the year.
I got a bunch of frames (a bunch of sizes) for Christmas and want to hang a bunch of photos in a grouping on my living room wall. (While proof-reading this sentence I realized I just said “bunch” a bunch of times, didn’t I? )
But I am trying to figure out if all the pictures need to be the same (i.e. black and white, sepia, seventies), or if I can mix it all up.

I have a hard enough time picking out socks. I hate decisions.
A few months ago we went to a story time about dogs, and I had a litter of puppies for a few days.
Then the other day I was that lady chasing and carrying the thrashing toddler through Walmart and I remembered this post I had been thinking up back then when I took these pictures.
It surprises me when people ask me if these are all my children when I am out with them.
I don’t think of 4 kids as a lot of kids, so maybe people are referring to the fact that some of them don't seem to listen to me.
Or they run around so much, it creates the illusion of more children.
What I do know is that I wouldn’t give up any of them.
Cali and Kimi worked on some decorations for their walls while school was out.
I enjoyed the new art and thought I would share some of my favorites.

It's a handsome (he insists he is not cute) look on him. Just not one I would have picked for winter.

It was still quite dark when Cali, Kimi, and Ian decided it was time to open presents. Natalie likes to sleep in, and they weren’t waiting around for her.
We made them eat breakfast and sit just outside the living room for a while, but then we decided to stop torturing them and let ‘em go.
This may seem like a lot of photos, but its hard to narrow it down from hundreds.
We were starting to pack up to go to Grandma’s house when Natalie woke up. She was a little caught off guard by the state of the living room and the fact that everyone was dancing around. She also wasn’t so sure about opening presents.
Then she got to see what was inside. A beautiful baby just for her.
Since she was now all warmed up, we went off to Grandma’s house.
The rest of the day was spent reveling in the spoils, and being together.
A perfect day.
